First bionic leg implants !

Oscar the cat is the first #animal to have received two bionic leg implants. Oscar’s hind legs were accidentally chopped off in a combine harvester, and his prosthetic legs were drilled into what remained of his original legs.

The bionic legs aren’t suited for an outside environment, so Oscar is now an indoor #cat, and he’s surely grateful for his remaining eight lives.

Rare birds flock to British shores in record numbers.

Hurricanes and global warming bring unusual visitor.
Britain's avian immigration figures are set to soar to a record level this year. #Birdwatchers say hurricanes and severe weather in north America and Asia have caused major disruptions to #bird migrations across the globe and swept an unprecedented number of #species towards the British Isles.

#Birds winging their way to their #breeding grounds on the other side of the Atlantic or in the Pacific have been left stranded in Britain and Ireland, adding their numbers to native #species.

Twitchers, as the most fanatical birdwatching enthusiasts are termed, have already observed a total of 442 species in the British Isles this year. The highest number ever spotted in one year is 445, in 2008.

Last month a Siberian rubythroat – a tiny brown bird with a scarlet chest – was spotted outside Lerwick in Shetland. A native of east Asia, it is extremely rare in Britain, but has now spent the past two weeks at the very northern edge of the nation, caught by the cameras of twitchers who have flocked to the island.

Similarly, a #bufflehead – a small #duck with a distinctive bulbous head – was spotted in a #farm pond on the Lizard in Cornwall.

"It had been migrating south from Canada to southern United States when it was swept out into the Atlantic by a storm. It had probably travelled more than 3,000 miles, which explains why it was knackered." The bufflehead has since flown on, probably to Portugal, he added.

Albino kangaroo

According to rangers, the animal is an eastern grey kangaroo, probably female and aged around two years old.

Albinism, which is caused by a genetic mutation, is extremely rare in kangaroos, similar to other species

The largest of their breed has been reported to stand more than 32 inches tall, with a weight of over 150 lbs. These #dogs come in varying colors, including black, brown, red and gray. Pure white Tibetan Mastiffs have also been reported, but they are extremely rare.

"THE WORLDS LARGEST FARM TRACTOR"

In 1977 the Big Bud 747 tractor was built in Havre, Montana. The tractor was built by Ron Harmon and the crew of the Northern Manufacturing Company. The tractor was built to produce 760 horsepower using a 16-cylinder Detroit Diesel engine. The tractor measures 27 feet long, 20 feet wide, and 14 feet tall. The tires were specially made by United Tire Company of Canada and are 8 feet in diameter. When the 1,000 gallon fuel tank is full the tractor tips the scales at over 100,000 pounds.

The Williams Brothers use the #tractor for cultivation purposes, pulling an 80 foot cultivator. The tractor can work more than one acre per minute, at speeds up to 8 mph. Except its new paint job, chrome stacks, and a whopping 900 plus horsepower.

Breed of cattle Guernsey !

The Isle of Guernsey, a tiny island in the English Channel off the coast of France, is the birthplace of the Guernsey cow. About 960 A.D., besieged by buccaneers and sea rovers, the Island came to the attention of Robert Duke of Normandy. He sent a group of militant monks to educate the natives to cultivate the soil and defend the land. The monks brought with them the best bloodlines of French cattle - Norman Brindles, also known as Alderneys, from the province of Isigny and the famous Froment du Leon breed from Brittany - and developed the Guernsey.

Importation to America
Introduction of the Guernsey to America occurred around September 1840, when Captain Belair of the Schooner Pilot brought three Alderney cows to the port of New York. Later, Captain Prince imported two heifers and a bull from the Island. These animals were the original stock of a great majority of the Guernseys that make up the national Guernsey herd today.

With the understanding that positive identification is crucial to preserving the purity of the breed, a group of    Guernsey breeders founded the American Guernsey Cattle Club in 1877. Since then, the organization  has  registered over three million Guernseys. Now the American Guernsey Association, the national      organization for the registration and promotion of Guernsey cattle, has introduced many other programs
for the advancement of the breed.

The Guernsey is a breed of cattle used in dairy farming.
It is fawn in colour with white markings, and is particularly renowned for the rich flavour of its milk.
